Tell us about your background:

I was raised by a record producing single Dad in Austin, TX. I have a BA in Environmental Geography from the University of Oklahoma, after graduation I moved back to Austin where I worked in fitness retail and wholesale, then completed my Master of Science in Textiles and Apparel Technology degree from UT Austin. At this stage of my career, I am working to merge the “old” with the “new” me – I am asking myself – where and how can I work with partners to create positive environmental and social impact for the world.

What do you wish you’d known when you started out?

That it is ok for career paths to be circuitous. I spent time learning in different facets of industry and each one of the experiences supported me being the fully embodied me who can give back knowledge and energy to my students - and therefore the world. Early in my career, I couldn’t see that it would take a decade or so to connect the dots to be able to get the full visual.

Best career advice you've ever received?

Never back a monster into a corner + don’t write important things on post-it notes. You’ll lose them.

What leadership qualities are important to you?

Fairness, humility, diligence, fortitude, communication, communication, communication

What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?

Wanting to offer service to the world as an educator – while simultaneously being limited by the academic salary.

And for fun, what is your favorite wardrobe staple?

Black Crane anything. I want to be a Black Crane model.
