Tell us about your background:

I started my career in knitwear production and transitioned into Technical Design about 15 years ago. I have learned so much about fit and construction over the years and it never stops! There are always new challenges to overcome. I have worked with many great brands such as DKNY, Ralph Lauren, Alexander Wang, Under Armour, Ovadia & Sons, and many smaller start-up companies as well.

What I love about my job is seeing the difference from sample to sample. I still make pattern corrections by hand because I feel it’s the best and most efficient way to get a better fitting garment. It's like a puzzle to me that I need to solve, and it's never boring.

What do you wish you’d known when you started out?

I could say I wish I knew how hard it would be moving here from Florida, but then again, maybe it’s better to not know. I was totally fearless, and I think it helped me succeed. However, going to a fashion school would have helped me immensely and been easier. I did attend FIT while I was working for Continuing Ed to learn more while I was working.

Best career advice you've ever received?

Well this is actually the advice I didn't get but I would like to give others. Relationships will help you so much in your career. Never burn a bridge. This industry is small and you always run into the same people. Be nice and open.

What leadership qualities are important to you?

Strength, Openness, Trust. I am a big advocate of work smarter, not harder. If there is a more efficient way to do something, let's pivot!

What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?

Definitely Covid, my company shutdown about 2 weeks in and I really had no idea what was going to happen. I began freelancing for the first time in my career and it all worked out. This is where my relationships with former colleagues really helped!

And for fun, what is your favorite wardrobe staple?

White sneakers! They go with everything!
