Tell us about your background:
I am a New York based painter, interior stylist and designer with a focus on visual problem-solving.

After a seven-year career in creative services, designing and styling interiors with Ralph Lauren Home, I founded FIERST STUDIO in 2018 to explore new visual languages and to partner with growing brands in developing experiential environments. FIERST STUDIO has worked with retail brands, residential and showroom developers, as well as other private clients to refine their visual identities and translate them into physical spaces.

I recently invested in an 800 sq ft studio space in Brooklyn, NY which is forcing me to take a closer look at the structure of my business and implement a strategic growth plan (not an innate skill for a creative). Currently, I'm focused on streamlining my art for sale and commission services while hosting bi-weekly figure drawing events at the studio.

What do you wish you’d known when you started out?

To focus on your process over perfection. I've wasted a lot of time second guessing myself and my work which in many cases has stopped me from creating anything at all. I've learned my imperfections are my strengths and vulnerability is a superpower.

Best career advice you've ever received?

“Imposter syndrome doesn’t just make you feel shitty about yourself, it also keeps you broke.” — Rachel Rodgers

What leadership qualities are important to you?

Problem-solver, Resilient, Decisive, Communicative, Supportive

What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?

The pandemic, of course, but generally saying “no” continues to be a challenge. The people-pleaser in me wants every client to be satisfied, regardless of how many hoops I'm asked to jump through. I have a post-it at my desk to remind myself daily to “SAY NO” to inquiries that are out of scope or don't align with my goals.

And for fun, what is your favorite wardrobe staple?

I can't go a week without wearing my black coveralls from Carhartt WIP. Any clothing item I can climb a ladder in and still feel put together is a win for me.
