In Conversation with Cassandra (Cassie) Hoblitz

Tell us about your background:

Hi, I'm Cassandra (Cassie) Hoblitz. I'm a marketer and creative with a Master's in Strategic Communications from Columbia University. In the past several years, I have helped consult on the communication strategy for the goop-approved yoga brand Ghost Flower and have dabbled with affiliate marketing for brands like Ilia and Beauty by Earth in my free time.

I thrive working in a creative environment and have a background in fine arts (drawing and painting). I am organized, a quick-study and a great communicator.

I have coordinated a number of big projects and events at Columbia University, including a virtual tour that I helped write and shoot, and ultimately ended up hosting!

Most recently, I've transitioned into a role in Client Services at School House NYC (under the tutelage of "the beauty brand whisperer", Chris Skinner) where I get to help manage creative projects for beauty's biggest brands.

What do you wish you’d known when you started out?

Don't underestimate the value of being humble, resourceful and excited to work when you're assessing your value in the job market. Everyone has to start somewhere!

Best career advice you've ever received?

Be yourself and everything will work out.

What leadership qualities are important to you?

Empathy, vision and coaching.

What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?

Thus far, the biggest challenge in my career has been breaking into the beauty industry after 5 years of working in education, while being in a global pandemic. Initially, I struggled to argue my case to potential employers, but after investing in myself through a Master's in Communications, actively seeking projects that taught me how to manage marketing initiatives and creative teams, and networking (Kristy and The Co-lab were instrumental in building my confidence) I was able to land my dream role in beauty branding at School House this past Spring!

And for fun, what is your favorite wardrobe staple?

Snake skin faux leather pants from Commando - I love the edge they give to streetwear.
