Tell us about your background:

I’m a fashion designer and merchandiser with nine years of experience in the fashion industry. I began my career in Boston designing women’s yoga, running, and training apparel at Puma. I then continued to work in womenswear at Macy’s completing their EDP program in New York City.

Currently, I am the Head Designer and Merchandiser of the Elie Tahari Collection in Saks Fifth Ave and Neiman Marcus. Here I manage the team in creating four collections per year, handle the merchandising and line plans each season, and produce our look book photoshoots with photographers, models, and other talent in the industry.

Recently I completed the CORe certification at Harvard Business School Online receiving a certification in Business Analytics, Financial Accounting, and Economics for Managers. Taking these courses really propelled me into the business side of the fashion industry and I was able to find a new passion to pursue.

What do you wish you’d known when you started out?

I started my career in design and stayed on the creative side thinking I could not explore other areas. After being exposed to different areas of the industry it was clear there are so many career paths you can take and it’s never too late to move divisions. Trying new things is a great way to figure out what you like and don’t like!

Best career advice you've ever received?

Take the time to invest in your team and your team’s development. There is no I in team! The stronger your team the more successful you will be.

What leadership qualities are important to you?

Communication, positivity, the ability to mentor, and transparency.

What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?

Dealing with micromanagers. In these management situations, it can end up negatively affecting your work and efficiency. As managers, you have to trust that you have put the right people in place for the job and lean on them for their expertise.

And for fun, what is your favorite wardrobe staple?

An oversized striped shirt!
