Tell us about your background:

My professional background is a mash-up of the film, fashion, and design industries, woven together by a love of story, people, objects and spaces.

What do you wish you’d known when you started out?

I wish I'd known to work smarter, not harder in some cases. 52 days straight without a day off in retail, 8 straight years of holidays without seeing my family. There's paying your dues, and then there's paying your dues!

Best career advice you've ever received?

Don't fight what you're good at. (this one took waaay too long to sink in)

What leadership qualities are important to you?

Kindness, honesty, curiosity, and the ability to pull out whatever (good stuff) makes people tick, and help them capitalize on that.

What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?

The biggest challenge is that I'm not sure I've had a "career" (yet) - or at least not in the traditional sense. Or maybe it's just that I'm not quite done with my career because I could have sworn I was going to be a CEO one day. As much as I've tried to venture beyond the world of well-designed spaces and things, I think I'm pretty much in this for the long haul. Unless Netflix comes calling, and then I think I would be willing to circle back...

And for fun, what is your favorite wardrobe staple?

Wardrobe staple: a high-low mix of good cashmere and Target men's sweater knits. I'm always cold.
