In Conversation with Rita de Guzman
Tell us about your background:
I have worked as a designer and art director in the luxury beauty, fashion, and lifestyle sectors for over 15 years. During this time, I have collaborated with top-tier brands such as David Yurman, Calvin Klein, Alice and Olivia, L'Oréal, Estée Lauder, and more. Additionally, I have been fortunate to work for creative agencies like Laird + Partners in NYC and globally in London and Rome, Italy. After my last role as Creative Director at L'Oréal, and with an entrepreneurial mindset, I decided that it was time for me to go solo and focus on exploring new opportunities, particularly in providing creative visions for startups.
What do you wish you’d known when you started out?
It is hard to say, I believe we all have different experience then we start, but I guess one would be never stop believing in yourself.
Best career advice you've ever received?
I believe Sybil Yurman once told me that as a creative in this industry, I should always be excited about my work. This energy will inevitably resonate with consumers, making them equally enthusiastic about it.
What leadership qualities are important to you?
Having a great sense of humor, knowing how to recognize talents, and having trust in your team.
What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?
Life is a challenge, so will skip this one.
And for fun, what is your favorite wardrobe staple?
Even though I don’t wear them often, my stilettos make me feel powerful.
