Tell us about your background:

I am a creative leader with twenty years of experience working in fashion design. My specialty is building teams, structure and strategy, in addition to introducing a cohesive creative vision with an elevated point of view. I started my career working at NY high end fashion houses: Peter Som, Derek Lam, Narciso Rodriguez, and Sari Gueron. I went on to lead women's design at Steven Alan during a time of major brand growth. This led to a role in women's design at the Gap, working with Rebekka Bay and a new creative vision for the brand. From there, I went on to lead all of women's design at Everlane and grow the business from 2015 to 2019. My latest role has been head of women's design for new brand Free Assembly, launched in the Fall of 2020.

What do you wish you’d known when you started out?

I'm not sure I can pinpoint one thing, I have really enjoyed this journey working in fashion, and not knowing what's waiting around the corner. When I was young, I was naive in thinking fashion was very glamorous to work in, quickly realizing that it was not with my first internship! I still love it, especially the unglamorous parts.

Best career advice you've ever received?

1. Always come prepared and arrive early! 2. When sharing a challenge, present a solution. 3. Lead with empathy.

What leadership qualities are important to you?

Respect, Listen, Inspire, Say Yes, Stay Positive but Real, Approachable, Creative, On Time, and Strategic.

What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?

The transition from single contributor to managing a large team. Management is a skill that is often learned on the job vs taught, especially for creatives. In the early days of being a young design manager, I didn't have the knowledge and experience that I have today to lead with empathy and "macro" manage. I've invested much of my time and energy into being a better leader because of this.

And for fun, what is your favorite wardrobe staple?

An LL Bean tote bag!
