Tell us about your background:

Alexis Rodriguez Alvich is an industry-recognized Communications Leader and Brand Marketer with 22+ years of experience within the beauty and fashion industries. A proven brand builder, impactful storyteller and keen navigator of strategy, she’s known for shaping consumer-centric, digital-first consumer engagement strategies that drive sales and present a lasting vision for the future sustainable growth and success of her brands. Most notably, Alexis has worked alongside industry icons Bobbi Brown and Diane von Furstenberg heading up their communications departments.

In 2017, Alexis founded Harper Grey Consulting to focus on creating holistic breakthrough peer-to-peer marketing programs. Her work is anchored in emotional storytelling that meets consumers where they are and services them beyond product. Her goal is always to turn brand affinity into brand love, and to transform brand audiences into engaged brand communities.

In 2020, Alexis recognized the disadvantage recent graduates had entering a virtual and/or remote professional landscape, so she created HG Connect, a mentoring program that helps aspiring communications executives and marketers break into the industry. In 2023, she launched The Leader Within, a leadership coaching program committed to helping anyone from entry-level to C-suite unleash the leader within with a focus on executive presence and influence, inspired by her Wharton Leadership certification.

Alexis is passionate about building brands and paying it forward, but is a mom first to Elle Harper and Harrison Grey who not only inspired the company name, but inspire her every day to build better, planet positive brands for the future.

What do you wish you’d known when you started out?

I honestly think not knowing a lot is why I excelled the way that I did. Had I known more, I think it would have limited me, or the fear would've held me back. Doing a lot blindly and figuring it out made me work harder.

Best career advice you've ever received?

Ask yourself if you will succeed. If the answer is no, don't take the job or leave the job.

What leadership qualities are important to you?

Empathy is #1 followed by integrity, credibility, humility and the ability to listen and understand. You also have to care more about the people than the numbers and show up in meaningful ways.

What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?

Running my own business. It's the most rewarding and challenging thing I've ever done.

And for fun, what is your favorite wardrobe staple?

Black leather jacket and red lipstick.
