the co-lab Panel: Circularity in Fashion

Join us as co-lab member Amy Rauen discusses circularity in fashion with Cassandra Kane, Founder of Sieme, Rachel Kibbe, Founder of Kept SKU, and Camille Tagle, Creative Director of FABSCRAP.

Cassandra Kane:

Cassandra Kane spent almost a decade designing luxury ready-to-wear, leather and fur, outerwear and eveningwear for brands in New York. Throughout these experiences, she worked closely with manufacturers and sample rooms and saw the realities of the fashion production industry from New York, to Europe and Asia. In 2017 she relocated to Florence, Italy to learn the art of Italian handbags and continue developing her craft at the supply source. Through all of these experiences, Cassandra grappled with the realities of waste and exploitation within the fashion industry at every level, even in the luxury handbag industry. This realization inspired her to launch Sieme, (@wearesieme) a brand and platform founded to offset luxury production material waste and support local artisans and independent factories. Cassandra has become an integral part of the Associazione ASPRI working to create circular production solutions in the Italian leather industry. Through training courses, supply chain disruption, mega-brand partnerships and support for brands and emerging designers, ASPRI is quickly becoming the premiere organization working towards circularity within the Italian leather industry.

Rachel Kibbe:

Rachel Kibbe is the founder of Kept SKU, a new venture tackling fashion returns and excess inventory for brands and customers. She's also the founder of Circular Services Group a vertically integrated firm that works with luxury fashion brands and other stakeholders on circularity and sustainability strategy, from consulting to upcycling. She spent time as the Head of Circularity for Retrievr, a doorstep collector of used clothing and electronics. She previously founded Helpsy, an online store for ethical fashion which she later merged with a municipal clothing collection company.

Camille Tagle:

Camille Tagle brings her deep history in the world of design and fashion to her work as Creative Director of FABSCRAP. After graduating from UCLA with a degree in Art History, Tagle studied design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She then spent her early career as an eveningwear designer for renowned New York City design houses, with creations that sold in major retailers and graced the red carpet. It was through her work as a designer that Tagle witnessed just how much fabric, especially reusable yardage, went to landfill after each collection. Moved by the issue and concerned about the environmental impact, she created her own reuse system to get these fabrics into the hands of those who could use them. Tagle joined forces with FABSCRAP in 2018, developing new and creative outlets for fabric redistribution and solidifying FABSCRAP as an acclaimed materials resource. Tagle is also particularly passionate about continuing to strengthen FABSCRAP’s relationships with schools throughout the country, believing that sustainability must become a key component in the education of today’s designers to better shape tomorrow’s design practices.
